Bio CNG
COMPRESSED BIOGAS (Bio-CNG)
Bio-CNG, also known globally as biomethane or renewable natural gas (RNG), is a clean, renewable and low-carbon fuel produced from organic waste through anaerobic digestion. Agricultural residues, food waste, animal manure, municipal organic waste and industrial biodegradable waste are converted into biogas by naturally occurring microorganisms in oxygen-free conditions. The raw biogas is then upgraded through advanced purification technologies such as water scrubbing, membrane separation or pressure swing adsorption to remove carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide, moisture and other impurities. The result is high-purity biomethane containing typically 95–96% methane (CH₄), comparable in quality and performance to conventional natural gas.At Rigel Bioenviron Solutions Pvt. Ltd., we provide integrated Bio-CNG solutions designed to transform organic waste into a valuable source of sustainable energy. Our purification and upgrading systems deliver high-quality compressed biogas suitable for diverse applications across transportation, industrial and commercial sectors.

Bio-CNG can be used as a direct replacement for fossil-based CNG, LPG and diesel in:
- Automotive and transportation fleets
- Industrial boilers, furnaces and thermal systems
- Power generation applications
- Hotels, restaurants, canteens and institutional kitchens
- Commercial establishments and rural energy networks
Compared to conventional fossil fuels, Bio-CNG offers multiple environmental and economic advantages, including significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduced dependence on imported fuels, improved waste management and support for circular economy practices. Since biomethane possesses characteristics similar to natural gas, it can also integrate with existing gas infrastructure and energy systems with minimal modification. With its high calorific value, reliable performance and sustainable origin, Bio-CNG is emerging as a key renewable fuel supporting the global transition toward cleaner, decentralized and climate-resilient energy systems.
Rigel delivers BioGas & BioCNG solutions under a single-point responsibility model, backed by the collective strength of our design and project teams, who together bring over five decades of hands-on experience in:

Supporting India’s Clean Energy and Circular Economy Goals
Our Bio-CNG projects are closely aligned with India’s renewable energy, circular economy, and waste-to-value initiatives. By converting agricultural residues, organic waste, and biomass into renewable Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG), these facilities contribute to sustainable waste management, greenhouse gas reduction, rural economic development, and energy security.
Under India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative, CBG is increasingly being integrated into the country’s energy infrastructure through established offtake mechanisms and city gas distribution networks. This creates a reliable pathway for renewable gas utilization while supporting the transition toward cleaner transportation and industrial energy systems.

In line with national programs promoting scientific waste management and resource recovery, Bio-CNG plants utilize feedstocks such as cattle manure, Napier grass, rice and paddy straw, sugarcane press mud, and other agricultural residues. These materials, which are often underutilized or openly burned, are transformed into a valuable renewable fuel, helping to reduce methane emissions, improve air quality, and minimize environmental impacts associated with conventional waste disposal practices.
As global demand for low-carbon energy solutions continues to grow, Bio-CNG offers a commercially viable and environmentally responsible alternative to fossil fuels. By combining sustainable feedstock utilization with proven biogas upgrading technologies, such projects deliver measurable environmental benefits while creating long-term economic value for farmers, industries, and local communities.
